After a 2-hour drive from L.A. (podcast queued, glitter packed), we rolled into the <\/span>Riviera Palm Springs<span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); letter-spacing: 0px;\">, a laidback, sprawling resort that felt more \u201ctropical staycation\u201d than \u201cswinger screamfest.\u201d Palm trees swayed, the weather was deliciously warm, and the pre-party energy felt\u2026 hopeful.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"1101\">Hell, we weren\u2019t exactly walking in cold. We were brimming with post-play bliss (just finished) and riding high on some serious NRE after a gangbuster playtime that finally broke our MFM drought. Yes, there were LED poles and go-go cages (Plush signatures), but the rest felt a bit meh. The space was big, but not immersive. Ambiance? Minimal. Spooky, sexy, or surreal? Not quite.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1962\" data-end=\"2267\">Costumes, however, delivered. Think dominatrix Barbie, fallen angels, literal demons, and more devil horns than you could count. We\u2019d say <span data-start=\"2100\" data-end=\"2131\">90% of the crowd dressed up<\/span>, which is impressive. It felt like a small step up from Friction North Carolina, which we attended last year, and\u00a0<em data-start=\"3481\" data-end=\"3487\">that<\/em>\u00a0event boasted maybe 600 people. So for something with triple the headcount and almost two decades of history, we expected a bit more fire.<\/p><p><strong>\u2705 Would we go back?<\/strong> \u2013 If we\u2019re already in SoCal and craving a quick lifestyle getaway? Sure. But if it\u2019s a toss-up between this and Plush Lake Havasu (hello, boat orgies) or the Vegas rager that is Dirty Vegas &#8211; we\u2019d probably opt for one of those next time.
